Share Your Story - Help Spread The Arts Work Mission

Did your arts education have a lasting impact on your life? We’d like to know how, and share your story with the rest of the world.

Here’s how to take part:

Shoot a video of yourself telling your story. Use a computer webcam or a regular video camera.

Tell us your name, occupation, where you live, what you studied, and how it impacts your daily life today.

For example: “My name is John Doe. I’m a brain surgeon from Ann Arbor, Michigan. In high school, I played trumpet in the jazz band. Frequently in the middle of a surgery I will encounter an unexpected situation and will tap into my creative abilities to find the solution that will save the patient's life by improvising, much as I would on a Miles Davis solo.”

Shoot yourself fairly close up, from about the chest up, look directly into the camera, make sure you use enough light, and speak clearly. Make sure there isan't a lot of background noise or echo. A good way to ensure this is to be in a small room with carpet and drapes. Do not include any music on your video.

Once you get the camera rolling, wait a few seconds before starting and sit still for a few seconds after you finish. If you goof up, don’t worry, just start over. And don’t worry about fancy editing or titles. We’ll take care of that on our end.

When you’re done, email the video to inform@arts-work.org using one of those file-sending services such as yousendit.com. Or, if you’re using a regular camera, send the video on disc or tape to:
